| 11/24/11 | ANNUAL TURKEY TROT RUN/WALK | ||
| On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, the Marquette Senior High School will hold its annual 5K and 10K Turkey Trot Run/Walk. This longstanding event will begin at the Marquette Senior High School and proceed west along Fair Avenue to the multi-use path where it will then cross Fair Avenue and proceed northerly along the path to Hawley Street, then east along the path to Lakeshore Boulevard, then northerly along the path on Lakeshore Boulevard to the coal dock. Runners/walkers will return back along the same route to finish at the Marquette Senior High School. The 5K walk/run event will follow part of the same route but turn around near Tourist Park. An alternate route may have to be followed in the event of inclement conditions. No city streets will be closed for this event, however the public is asked to use caution while driving in this area. | |||

| Due to delays, the Spring Street paving originally scheduled for Thursday, October 27 has been rescheduled to Thursday, November 3. On Thursday, November 3, Spring Street will be closed to thru traffic from Front Street to Third Street from 7:00 am. to 12:00 noon. This closure is for road paving associated with a waterline that was recently installed to the MarqTran building currently under construction at the northeast corner of Spring Street and Third Street. Spring Street will be open to local businesses. Vehicular access to the U.S. Post Office mailboxes on Spring Street will not be available. | 10/21/11 | LAKESHORE BOULEVARD (A.K.A. ISLAND BEACH ROAD) PETER WHITE DRIVE TO THE WEST END OF LAKESHORE BOULEVARD | ||
| Beginning at 7:00 am on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 construction will start on Phase II of the Lakeshore Boulevard sanitary sewer extension and water main replacement/extension project. This phase will start approximately 1000 feet to the west of the Lakeshore Boulevard and Peter White Drive intersection and end approximately 2000 west of this same intersection. It is anticipated that this phase of the project will be substantially complete by August 27, 2011. The overall project is anticipated to be completed by October 21, 2011. During construction on this phase, access will be provided to those homes located west of the construction limits by means of a temporary roadway. This temporary roadway will detour local residents off of Lakeshore Boulevard near the Phase line and utilize the LS&l service road before intersecting back into Lakeshore Boulevard west of the construction limits. The City asks that vehicular traffic be limited to the local residents and their guests. Residents traveling through this area are advised to use caution and be aware of all construction/detour signing and control devices. Residents and guests are urged when traveling on the detour route to stay within the limits of the access way and not to venture onto the private property of LS&l. | Beginning Tuesday, September 6 and continuing through Thursday, October 6, 2011, Lakeshore Boulevard will be narrowed to one lane and detoured at the LS&l train trestle located south of Presque Isle Park. The detour is in effect while the trestle is being painted. The detour will be along a temporary gravel road constructed west of the existing road. Lakeshore Boulevard will be open to north and southbound traffic, however one-way traffic will be regulated on the detoured one lane road using traffic signals. The multi-use path will also be detoured west of the existing bike path. The public is asked to be aware of the detour, particularly of the one way traffic on the one lane road, and is asked to obey the traffic signals that control the one lane road. | 09/03/11 | MARQUETTE MARATHON & HALF MARATHON (Including Kids Race on Friday, September 2) | ||
| Ringside Fitness will be sponsoring the Marquette Marathon, Half Marathon, and a Kids Fun Run the weekend of September 2 and 3. The Marquette Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifying event with proceeds from all the events benefiting the Marquette Senior High School Music Programs.
The events begin with a Kids Fun Run at 7:00 pm, Friday, September 2. The Fun Run will start at the Marquette Commons and proceed west on the multi-use path, crossing Fourth and Fifth Streets and continuing west to a turnaround point before McClellan Avenue, then returning along the same route. The September 3 marathon and half marathon begin at Presque Isle Park with the marathon beginning at 7:30 am and the half marathon beginning at 8:00 am. Both races take the following route with the marathon making two loops: multi-use path from Presque Isle Park to Hawley Street, Hawley Street to the abandoned railroad grade, the abandoned railroad grade to Powder Mill Road, Powder Mill road to Hawley Street, then the multi-use path from Hawley to/through Tourist Park to Sugar Loaf Avenue, then the path from Sugar Loaf Avenue to the intersection of Washington Street & McClellan Avenue, then the path from McClellan Avenue to intersection of Spring Street & Lakeshore Boulevard, then the path from Spring Street to Hampton Avenue, turning around just before Hampton Avenue and returning to Presque Isle Park via the path. This race crosses numerous streets including Wright Street, Fair Avenue. Ridge Street, Washington Street, Fifth, Fourth, and Third Streets, Front Street, and Lakeshore Boulevard. The only road that will be closed is the one way section of Peter White Drive around Presque Isle, which will be closed Saturday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. All the other roads will be open with road crossings manned by volunteers and the Marquette Police from 7:00 am through 12:30 pm. Race participants will be crossing at designated locations at varying times. The public is advised to use caution when traveling and asked to obey all road crossing attendants. At 12:30 pm, the road crossing affidavits will disperse and the road crossings will revert back to “rules of the road” however race participants will still be crossing streets and motorists are asked to be cautious and courteous. |

Beginning the week of Monday August 22, 2011 various areas in the City of Marquette will experience traffic disruptions due to sanitary sewer slip lining operations. Insituform Technologies will be incorporating trenchless technology by the use of a slip lining process to replace the sanitary sewer mains. | On Saturday, August 27, 2011, beginning at 9:00 am, and continuing through 12:00 noon, there will be a community walk starting at the Washington Street River Valley Bank and proceeding as follows: Walk to begin at at the Berry Events Center, then proceed west through the parking lot to Third Street, then south on the Third Street sidewalk to Spring Street, then east on the Spring Street multi-use path to the Lakeshore Boulevard multi-use path, then north on the multi-use path to Fair Avenue, then west on the Fair Avenue sidewalk returning to the Berry Events Center. The community walk will occur only on the sidewalks and multi-use path and no roads will be closed, however the public is asked to be aware of pedestrians crossing the streets. | |||

| The YMCA of Marquette County will be sponsoring its 11th annual YMCA Run/Walk on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. Events will include a 10 mile and I0k run, a 5k run/walk, a 1 mile youth run, and a toddler trot. Beginning at 8:00 a.m., Pine Street will be closed from Fair Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard. Pine Street is expected to re-open by 12:00 p.m. All events will start at the YMCA, turn north on Pine Street and continue north along the multi-use path. The 5k will turn around just north of the Dead River bridge and return to the YMCA. The 10k and 10 mile runs will continue to and around Presque Isle Park. The 10k will return to the YMCA; the 10 mile run will turn west on Hawley Street, north on the two track trail, cross Schneider Mill Court and Powder Mill Road, and proceed westerly on the Noquemanon Trail before returning back along the same trail and road crossings to the multi-use path, Pine Street, and the YMCA. No other streets except Pine Street will be closed and the public is asked to use caution while driving in this area. | |||

| On Saturday, September 4, Ringside Fitness will be sponsoring the Marquette Marathon and Half Marathon. The Marquette Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifying event with all proceeds benefiting the Marquette Senior High School Athletic Booster Club. Both races begin at Presque lsle Park with the half marathon beginning at 7:15 am and the marathon beginning at 7:30 a.m. The course takes the following route: multi-use path from Presque lsle Park to Hawley Street, Hawley Street to the abandoned railroad grade, the abandoned railroad grade to Powder Mill Road, Powder Mill road to Hawley Street, then the multi-use path from Hawley through Tourist Park to Sugar Loaf Avenue, then the path from Sugar Loaf Avenue to the intersection of Washington Street & McClellan Avenue, then the path from McClellan Avenue to intersection of Spring Street & Lakeshore Boulevard, then the path from Spring Street to Hampton Avenue, turning around just before Hampton Avenue and returning to Presque lsle Park via the path. This race crosses numerous streets including Wright Street, Fair Avenue, Ridge Street, Washington Street, Fifth, Fourth, and Third Streets, Front Street, and Lakeshore Boulevard. The only road that will be closed is Peter White Drive around Presque lsle Park, which will be closed for the Friday night kids race from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm and for the Saturday marathon from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. All the other roads will be open with road crossings manned by the Marquette Police and volunteers from 7:00 am through 12:00 pm. Race participants will be crossing at designated locations at varying times. The public is advised to use caution when traveling in Marquette this day and asked to obey all road crossing attendants. At 12:00 pm, the road crossing attendants will disperse and the road crossings will revert back to "rules of the road" however race participants will still be crossing streets and motorists are asked to be cautious and courteous. | |||

| Seventh Street Traffic Control Changes: Spring Street to Fisher Street | |||
| Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on August 13th, 2010 the intersections of Spring Street and Fisher Street with Seventh Street will have a few changes to the current traffic control. Seventh Street will be open to through traffic up through Washington Street beginning at 8:30 a.m. on August 13. Due to this change in traffic flow the intersection at Spring Street will require traffic to stop on Spring Street while traffic goes through on Seventh Street. The intersection at Fisher Street will require traffic to stop on Fisher Street while traffic goes through on Seventh Street. A left hand turn lane has also been constructed between Rock and Fisher on Seventh Street to alleviate traffic congestion. Thursday and Friday the Public Works Department will finish any ditching required and will shape the gravel shoulders to match the new road surface. The compost site at the former Cliff DOW area will be closed Wednesday to allow for the paving activities. This work is required as part of the Seventh Street Extension Project. Work will consist of widening the street a few feet along with curb removal, minor asphalt removal, subsequent replacement, and the placement of the required traffic markings and signage. However, in the event the path is closed, pedestrians and bicyclists in this area are asked to use Lakeshore Boulevard as the detour and are reminded to follow the rules of the road: pedestrians are to walk "against" traffic and bicyclists are to ride "with" traffic. | Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on July 2, 2010 water main work will start at the intersection of Seventh Street and Spring Street. Work in the intersection will consist of main tapping and extension out of the intersection. Water will be shut down for several blocks to allow for this work to be completed. Notices have been sent out to the affected residents. Hebert Construction is the general contractor for this project. The anticipated completion date for this project is July 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. The detour routes will utilize Fifth Street and Baraga Avenue. | Beginning Saturday at 7:00 a.m., a traffic shift will occur on McClellan Avenue with all northbound traffic shifted to the center turn lane in order to accommodate the 35, 55, and 100 mile races. Southbound traffic on McClellan Avenue will not be affected. Pioneer Road will be closed at McClellan Avenue and closed to thru traffic at Division Street. | |||
