The public is advised to be aware of all flagging and traffic control devices and to use caution when traveling through these areas. Dates and areas for street paving are as follows:

Beginning at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, temporary no parking signs will be posted along the west parking lane in order to clear vehicles from Third Street for the proposed work. The motoring public is asked to be aware of short-term traffic interruptions resulting from this work and to be cautious and courteous while the paving and painting crews perform their work. If inclement weather delays the planned work, additional public service announcements will be issued.

Thursday, September 29, closed 2:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

A street overlay is a cost effective means of extending the service life of a roadway. Typically 11/2 to 2-inches of asphalt are applied to an existing road surface. This is done by first milling or grinding parts or the entire existing surface of asphalt. The reason for milling is to make room for the asphalt that is to be applied. Manhole and valve boxes are then adjusted to be at a minimal depth below the finished road surface to provide a level of ride quality.

The asphalt is then applied by an asphalt paver that spreads a consistent layer of hot asphalt down on the surface, The asphalt is then rolled or compacted with the use of a steal drum rollers.

Friday, September 29 - Third Street intersections from Arch Street to Fair Street will experience short-term closures to accommodate the paving of side street approaches.

Beginning at approximately noon on September 27 and 28, temporary no parking signs will be posted at the closure locations in order to clear vehicles from Third Street for the proposed work.

If additional inclement weather causes further delays, additional closures will result. In the event of further delays, additional public service announcements will be issued.

It is anticipated that all these areas will be completed by Saturday. September 24, 2011.

Walk to begin at the Commons at 112 S. Third Street, then proceed south on the sidewalk on Third Street to Spring Street, then proceed east on the sidewalk on Spring Street to the bike path, then north on the bike path to Picnic Rocks, then reversing and returning to the Commons along the same route. The community walk will occur only on the sidewalks and bike path and no roads will be closed, however the public is asked to be aware of pedestrians crossing the streets.

The events begin with a Kids Fun Run at 7:00 pm, Friday, September 2. The Fun Run will start at the Marquette Commons and proceed west on the multi-use path, crossing Fourth and Fifth Streets and continuing west to a turnaround point before McClellan Avenue, then returning along the same route.

The September 3 marathon and half marathon begin at Presque Isle Park with the marathon beginning at 7:30 am and the half marathon beginning at 8:00 am. Both races take the following route with the marathon making two loops: multi-use path from Presque Isle Park to Hawley Street, Hawley Street to the abandoned railroad grade, the abandoned railroad grade to Powder Mill Road, Powder Mill road to Hawley Street, then the multi-use path from Hawley to/through Tourist Park to Sugar Loaf Avenue, then the path from Sugar Loaf Avenue to the intersection of Washington Street & McClellan Avenue, then the path from McClellan Avenue to intersection of Spring Street & Lakeshore Boulevard, then the path from Spring Street to Hampton Avenue, turning around just before Hampton Avenue and returning to Presque Isle Park via the path.

This race crosses numerous streets including Wright Street, Fair Avenue. Ridge Street, Washington Street, Fifth, Fourth, and Third Streets, Front Street, and Lakeshore Boulevard. The only road that will be closed is the one way section of Peter White Drive around Presque Isle, which will be closed Saturday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. All the other roads will be open with road crossings manned by volunteers and the Marquette Police from 7:00 am through 12:30 pm.

Race participants will be crossing at designated locations at varying times. The public is advised to use caution when traveling and asked to obey all road crossing attendants. At 12:30 pm, the road crossing affidavits will disperse and the road crossings will revert back to “rules of the road” however race participants will still be crossing streets and motorists are asked to be cautious and courteous.

Unless otherwise noted, these closures will remain in effect until 2:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20. Pedestrian access will be allowed throughout the street closure areas. The detour route for Front Street will be by way of Baraga Avenue, Fifth Street and Bluff Street.

1. Hawley Street, from Presque Isle Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard.
2. Wright Street, from Presque Isle Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard.
3. Schneider Mill Court, from River Park Circle to end of Schneider Mill Court.
4. Powder Mill Road, from Wright Street to end of Powder Mill Road.

The detour route to access Lakeshore Boulevard from Hawley Street and Wright Street will be Presque Isle Avenue south to Fair Avenue, then Fair Avenue east to Lakeshore Boulevard. Access to the Biolife Plasma Services will be available from Hawley Street, west from Lakeshore Boulevard.

On Friday, December 31 from 11 :30 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., the New Year's Eve Ball Drop will occur at the intersection of Front Street and Washington Street. The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:

• Washington Street - Third Street to Lakeshore Boulevard
• Front Street - Main Street to Bluff Street
  

Due to the wet weather the street paving has been rescheduled to begin Saturday, September 25, 2010. Various areas in the City of Marquette will experience traffic disruptions due to street overlay activities. The contractor is in the process of repairing the potholes that have been created due to the weather delays. The public is advised to be aware of all flagging and traffic control devices and to use caution when traveling through the following areas:

1. Pioneer Road - Altamont Street to McClellan Avenue (Sept. 25th)
2. Ridge Street - McClellan Avenue to Meeske Avenue (Sept. 27th)
3. Elder Drive - North and South of Center Street (Sept. 27th and 28th)
4. Hampton Street - Adams Street to Albion Street (Sept. 28th)
5. Fair Avenue - Lincoln Avenue to McClellan Avenue (Sept. 29th and Sept. 30th)
6. Lakeshore Boulevard - Baraga Avenue to U.S. 41 (Sept. 29th)

It is anticipated that all these areas will be completed by Thursday, September 30, 2010. This completion date may be extended due to delays caused by the weather.

On Saturday, September 18, 2010, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing through noon, there will be a community walk starting at the Commons at 112 S. Third Street and proceeding as follows: Walk to begin at the Commons at 112 S. Third Street, then proceed south on the sidewalk on Third Street to Spring Street, then proceed east on the sidewalk on Spring Street to the bike path, then north on the bike path to Picnic Rocks, then reversing and returning to the Commons along the same route. The community walk will occur only on the sidewalks and bike path and no roads will be closed, however the public is asked to be aware of pedestrians crossing the streets.

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on July 14th, 2010 street reconstruction work will start at the intersection of Seventh Street and Spring Street. Work in this intersection will consist of curb removal, asphalt removal, subbase work, and subsequent reconstruction of the street surface. Hebert Construction is the general contractor for this project. The anticipated completion date for this project is now July 30, 2010 at 700 p.m. The detour routes will utilize Fifth Street and Baraga Avenue.

07/23/10 Update: Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on July 27, 2010 construction on a left hand turn lane on Seventh Street between Rock Street and Fisher Street will start. This work is required as part of the Seventh Street Extension Project. Work will consist of widening the street a few feet along with curb removal, minor asphalt removal, subsequent replacement, and the placement of the required traffic markings and signage. Hebert Construction is the general contractor for this project. The anticipated completion date for this project is July 31, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The detour routes will utilize Fisher Street, Sixth Street and Baraga Avenue. The City of Marquette asks for your patience during this needed utility work.
