Marquette enjoys one of the lowest crime rates in the United States, thanks in large part to the City’s Police Department. In addition to crime prevention, law enforcement and traffic control, the department offers many other services to the community including bicycle patrol, rescue/dive teams, snowmobile patrol, a school liaison officer, and youth services officer. Through its youth services bureau, the Department offers many preventative and educational programs including bicycle safety, and youth violence prevention.

The Department works in partnership with other local law enforcement personnel including the County Sheriff’s Department and Northern Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety to enhance the safety and protection of area residents.
