The Planning Commission was established under the provisions of Public Act 33 of 2008, and the City Charter Section 4.18. The Commission is responsible for developing and adopting a Master Plan for the City; reviews development proposals, subdivisions, and makes recommendations on zoning matters to the Commission, and also sets policy and programs for the planning staff. The Commission also has review authority over the six-year Capital Outlay Budget through Section 8.3 of the City Charter and Public Act 285 of 1931. The Commission meets the first and third Tuesday of each month; however, when August Primary Elections and the November General Elections are held, the group meets the second and third Tuesday of the month. Meetings take place 6:00 pm, except for legal holidays, in the Commission Chambers. The Commission has nine members serving three-year terms.
