| Mayor Kivela was first elected to the Marquette City Commission in 2006. Reelected in 2009, he began his second term in office as well as his second year as mayor. He was born and raised in Marquette, and has been a businessman in the community for several years. Prior to joining the Commission, Mayor Kivela served on the Board of Zoning Appeals from 2000-2006. He was elected as chair of the BZA from 2002-2006. Over the years he’s also been an active member in the Rotary Club of Marquette, the Upper Michigan Builders Association, and the Marquette Elks Lodge, as well as serving on the U.P. Children’s Museum Board of Directors. He and his wife, Sandy, have two children: Shelby and Andrew. | Mayor Pro-Tem DePetro was originally elected to the Marquette City Commission in 2005 to fill a vacancy. He was then reelected in 2007 to his first full term in office, and become Mayor Pro Tem in 2008. A lifelong resident of Marquette, he attended both St. Michael’s Grade School and Bishop Baraga High School; he also is a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He joined the U.S. Navy in September 1965 and served two tours of duty in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in September 1969. He began his employment with the City of Marquette in April 1973, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. After more than 32 years of service to the City, he retired in June 2004. An active member of the Men’s Senior Hockey League since 1972, he also volunteers at Marquette Junior Hockey tournaments. He serves in a number of community organizations including the American Legion, Marquette Elks, Negaunee VFW and Vietnam Veterans of Negaunee, where he serves as a Chapter Color Guard. A former fireman and previous member of the Marquette Traffic and Parking Committee, he now enjoys League Cribbage along with his numerous other activities. He and his wife, Joyce, have one son, Nicholas, who is serving in the United States Air Force. | |||

| Commissioner Linna was also originally elected to the Marquette City Commission in 2005 to fill a vacancy, and was then reelected in 2008 to her first full term in office. Prior to her election, she served two terms on the Marquette Area Public Schools (MAPS) Board of Education (July 1997-November 2005). On the MAPS Board, she served as vice president three times and also has been a member of the negotiating team for several contracts. She holds a degree in elementary education from Northern Michigan University and works at Small Fryes Daycare, providing care for children from birth to early elementary ages. She grew up in the Skandia area and has been a Marquette resident since 1978. Her husband, Larry, works for the City of Marquette as a utility inspector. The couple has two children: Hans, an NMU student, and Elsa, a student at Marquette High. | |||

| Commissioner Niemi was elected to the Marquette City Commission in November of 2008. He was born and raised in Hancock, Michigan, and has lived in Marquette since 1973. He has a BA in Social Science from MSU and a MA in Public Administration from NMU. Niemi started work with the City of Marquette in 1975 as an intern in the City Manager's Office providing support for the Marquette Transit Authority (MTA). In February of 1976 he became the full-time Administrator of the MTA and in 1985 upon consolidation into the Marquette County Transit Authority he was appointed Executive Director retiring in January 2006. He is currently the part-time Executive Director of the Michigan Transit Pool, a self-insurance pool of transit systems throughout the state of Michigan. He is active in community affairs recently serving on the Marquette Downtown Development Authority, is a member of the Marquette Cool Cities Committee, St. Michael Church Building & Grounds Committee and a volunteer for Room-at-the-Inn. Formerly he served on St. Michael's Church Finance Council, and as Treasurer and Member of the Father Marquette School Board. He and his wife, Joy, have two children: a son Steven, and a daughter Allison. | |||

| Elected to the Marquette City Commission in 2008, Commissioner Ryan has a lengthy record of community service. He played a leadership role in the formation of the Lake Superior Jobs Coalition, and the Lake Superior Community Partnership, and has served as a director for many organizations including Michigan Works, the Children’s Museum, the Marquette County History Museum and a director and chairman of Operation Action U.P., the Economic Club of Marquette County and Bell Memorial Hospital. He was named U.P. Person of the Year in 1993-94, and in 2008 received the LSCP Distinguished Service Award. His working career started at WJPD Radio when he was a sophomore in high school. In the 1960s he worked at WLUC-TV in news, sports and weather, and later served as operations manager and station manager. In the mid-1970s, he started his own public relations business, and served for three years as the district representative for Congressman Phil Ruppe. For 26 years he was Cleveland-Cliffs manager of public affairs. For the last nearly five years, Ryan served as host of The Ryan Report on TV6, interviewing countless political and business leaders. He and his wife, Jane, have 7 grandchildren, all living in the area and all playing an important part in their lives. | |||

| Commissioner Saint-Onge was elected to the Marquette City Commission in 2009. Prior to his election, he served in several leadership roles. Following graduation from Michigan Tech in 1981, Saint-Onge became the youngest employee in the Construction Department at The Detroit Edison Company, an electric utility based in Detroit. Saint-Onge and his family moved back to Marquette in 1990 when he was hired as an Environmental Engineer by Sundberg, Carlson and Associates. He grew the Environmental Division portion of the firm to 39 employees and over $3 million in annual sales, eventually being promoted to Chief Operations Officer with responsibility for the entire 149 person firm. In 1995, Saint-Onge founded TriMedia Consultants, servicing public and private clients from four offices. He sold his interest in the firm in 2008. In 2009, Saint-Onge opened his latest business venture, Black Ink Assets, a business consulting company. In his spare time, Saint-Onge was instrumental in establishing the Marquette Rangers Hockey Club, an amateur hockey entertainment business which competes on a national scale. He has been a member of several community organizations including the Economic Club of Marquette County, the Lake Superior Community Partnership Committee, Board of Zoning Appeals, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and is a current Executive Committee Member of the North American Hockey League. | |||

| Commissioner Stonehouse was elected to the Marquette City Commission in 2008. Stonehouse maintains an active schedule of community involvement in Marquette. He graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1970 (BS) and 1977 (MA). He is best known for his work as a maritime historian, authoring numerous books and articles and appearing on various national television documentaries. Service to the community is important to Stonehouse. A founding and current board member of the Marquette Maritime Museum he also serves on the NMU Alumni Advisory Board, De Vos Art Museum Advisory Board and Marquette County Economic Plan Committee and Income Tax Study Task Force and served on the Recreation Master Plan Committee and Iron Ore Heritage Trail Committee among others. He retired from the U.S. Army (Corps of Engineers) in 1997. | |||
