At the November 8, 2011 City General Election the electors of the City of Marquette voted for a Revision of the City Charter and elected a Charter Commission.  The action was preceded by the City Commission appointment of a ten member City Charter Review Working Group (Group) in July of 2011.  The Group was charged with evaluating the current City Charter and whether or not to recommend that the City Commission call for a Revision of the Charter.  The Group met on three occasions and concluded that the Charter was in need of Revision.  Subsequently ballot language was prepared and added on the November 2011 general election that asked two questions: 1) whether a Revision of the City’s Charter should be done; and 2) declare for the election of a nine member Charter Commission.  As a result of the election the Charter Revision question was approved and nine City Charter Commissioners were elected.  The City Charter Commission will hold its regular meetings during 2012 in Commission Chambers at 6:00 p.m.  Additional meetings may be called, and changes may be made in accordance with the City Charter.
