Fireworks
Safety Tips
The Marquette City Fire
Department wants all of the citizens of Marquette
to have a safe and happy 4th of July, so we offer the following safety tips:
- Always
read and follow label directions
- Light
fireworks with a long fireplace match or an aim end flame device
- Never
re-light a "dud" firework (wait 15 to 20 minutes and then soak
it in a metal can filled with water)
- Place
fireworks in sand or on a non-combustible surface
- Have
a small fire extinguisher or garden hose present when lighting fireworks
- Do
not light fireworks in dry and windy conditions
- Wear
safety glasses or goggles and clothing that covers exposed skin
- Never
give fireworks to children, fireworks are for adult use only
- If
necessary, store fireworks in a cool dry place
- Stay
away from illegal fireworks
Remember: If it makes a loud bang or leaves the ground,
it's illegal in Michigan
