Utility Billing

Your “Water Bill” is actually a water utility and city services bill.  A breakdown of a typical monthly bill would work something like this:

 

1.     Water treatment and Distribution $20.68 (41% of your utility bill)

a.     Operation and Maintenance ($10.11) of the Water Filtration Plant and the water distribution system which includes three 1 million gallon tanks, and almost 90 miles of distribution mains.

b.     Capital Projects ($4.38). The Water Utility budgets for $2,000,000 worth of water & sewer main replacement annually.

c.      Bond Payment ($4.25).  Repayment of loans for Filtration Plant construction and other system work.

d.     Payment in Lieu of Taxes ($1.64).  A payment made to the city’s general fund based on the value of water utility holdings.

2.     Sewer, Refuse, & Storm Water Charges $30.49 (59% of utility bill)

a.     Sewer Collection & Treatment $18.14 (36% of utility bill).  The sewage collection system includes 8 lift stations, over 80 miles of collection mains, and operation costs of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

b.     Garbage

i)        Refuse Collection $10.70 (20% of Utility Bill, $6.35 garbage, recycling & landfill expenses + $4.35 yard waste collection & composting). Refuse pickup and transfer to the County Landfill.

ii)      Landfill Bonds $0.00.  Not being billed for fiscal year 2004-2005.

c.      Storm Water Utility $1.65 (3% of utility bill.)  Maintains and protects water quality in natural water courses around the city.
