Valentine Candlelight Snowshoe

Snowshoe the beautiful Presque Isle Park by candlelight and enjoy hot chocolate at Moosewood Nature Center. A limited number of snowshoes are available. Rental is free for members and $5.00 for not-yet-members. Contact Moosewood Nature Center for more information at 228-6250.
UP 200 Dog Sled Race, Midnight Run, Jack Pine 30

The Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association claims that this weekend in February is "the excitement of Alaska without the airfare!" Once you've been downtown to witness the start of the UP 200, you'll never forget the crisp cold air, the excitement of the crowd and the howling of the dogs as they prepare to take off. The downtown start for this 240 mile Iditarod qualifier is a must see in Marquette this season. The race starts on the corner of Washington and Third Street at 6:30 pm Friday evening. From 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Friday evening there will be coffee, cookies, and hot choclolate available at the Commons.

Come to the Lakeview Arena for great hockey action as the Marquette City Police take on the Marquette City Fire Department in a charity hockey game. The proceeds of this game are used to help families in the community who have been displaced from their homes due to fire. Tickets are only $1.00 per person.

Hiawatha Music Co-op
April 12th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
The Hiawatha Music Co-op is sponsoring a workshop, "Songs of The Carter
Family", on April 12th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The workshop, led by Phil,
Annette, and Salem Watts, will be at Grace United Methodist Church in
Marquette. The Original Carter Family - A.P., Sara, and Maybelle - are
considered the early pioneers of a rural music style that developed into
folk, country, and bluegrass. The interactive workshop will present a
history of the original Carter Family and their musical styles and harmony.
Participants will also learn and sing several of the Carter Family songs. A
workshop fee of $25 ($15 for under 18 yrs) will support a scholarship to
enable a local young person to attend a one-week music camp at the Augusta
Heritage Center in West Virginia. For more information or to register for
