Board of Review
The Board of Review was established by the Marquette City Charter, Section 18.5, which parallels requirements set forth in Michigan Compiled Laws, Section 211.29. The board hears appeals on property assessment. Power, duties and procedures are set by state law and the city charter. The board meets on four separate days in March in the city commission chambers to review the assessment roll and to hear complaints. A one-day session is held each July and December to correct clerical errors. The board consists of five members serving three year terms.

| Public Hearing Sessions | March 24 | 9:00am to 12:00pm 1:30pm to 4:30pm |
| March 25 | 3:00pm to 9:00pm | |
The purpose of the public hearing sessions of the Board of Review is to receive protests and to correct the assessed value and tentative taxable value. The Board has full authority, upon its own motion, to change assessments and to add omitted property.
Appearance before the board is on a first come first serve basis and no appointments are made. The number of protests in the last few years has been light and the wait is not generally long.
Resident property owners may not present written protests to the board, and must appear before the board. Non-resident property owners may appeal to the board in writing.
If you have determined that your assessment is incorrect, we urge you to contact our office to discuss the records of your property. Corrections can be made following discussions with a staff appraiser in the Community Development office. If an agreement cannot be reached before the public hearings, you are urged to provide factual information for submittal to the board members. Following your appearance before the board, you will receive a written determination by the board and the continued appeal process. |

| July Board of Review | July 22 | 9:00am to adjournment |

Both the July and December meetings are designed to only correct a clerical error or a mutual mistake of fact relative to an individual assessment. No other business may be conducted at these meetings. As with the organizational meeting, the July and December meetings are not attended by the public.
All Board of Review meetings will be held in the Commission Chambers of City Hall, 300 W Baraga Ave, Marquette, Michigan. |
